Getting to Nosara

Fly into Liberia (LIR), not San José. Liberia is the closest international airport and has direct flights from most big US hubs. From there you have three ways to reach Nosara.

Rent a car and drive

About 3 hours

The most flexible option. Pick up a rental at the airport and follow the coast road south. The last stretch into Nosara is unpaved, so book a 4x4 or a high-clearance SUV. You won’t need the car much once you arrive: Guiones is walkable and we’re running a shuttle to the venue on the wedding day. It’s mostly for day trips and other beaches.

  • We’ve rented from Vamos in the past and had a good experience. They’ll meet you at the Liberia airport.
  • Book a 4x4. The roads around Nosara are dirt and can be rough.
  • Download offline maps before you leave the airport. Signal drops on the way.
  • Try to arrive before dark. The drive is much easier in daylight.
  • Costa Rica requires every renter to buy basic liability insurance. You can usually skip the collision coverage if your credit card covers rentals, but bring a printed letter of coverage from your card company to the counter.

Group shuttle

About 3 hours

If a group of you lands on the same flight, we will help book a private shuttle from Liberia straight to Nosara. Once your flights are booked, send us your travel plans and we will match you up with other guests arriving around the same time.

  • Fill in the travel plans form with your flight number and landing time.
  • Shuttles are door to door, so include where you are staying.
  • You may still want a rental or golf cart in town once you arrive.

Local flight to Nosara

About 30 minutes in the air

Sansa runs small planes from Liberia to Nosara airport (NOB) a couple of times a day. It is quick, scenic and drops you ten minutes from Guiones. Seats and luggage allowances are limited, so book early and pack light.

  • Check bag weight limits when you book; they are lower than international flights.
  • Schedules change by season. Confirm times a few weeks before you travel.
  • Taxis and golf-cart rentals are easy to arrange at the Nosara airstrip.
